Pakistan’s Senate Standing Committee on Commerce was informed that approximately 2.8 billion liters of petrol and diesel are illegally shipped from Iran every year, resulting in a loss of revenue of 2700 billion liters.

In addition, five major sectors, including pharmaceuticals, tires, and tea, are facing tax evasion of about Rs751 billion annually due to illegal trade and counterfeit goods.

Nearly 40 percent of medicines and 60 percent of tires are either substandard or smuggled. The committee called for effective measures to eliminate the illegal trade, citing poor enforcement and high tariffs as key factors.
